Rules of the road

Hi again,
In the course of discussing things, tempers may flare, but I'm asking and telling everyone that abusive language and behavior will not be tolerated. Everyone has an opinion and that's fine, but express it in a non-abusive way, okay?

    Hi Art!

    It was marvelous to meet both you and Craig Criddle and to discuss your important work in revealing how the Book of Mormon came to be. I believe that Swedenborg explains some of who was responsible for the creation of Mormon doctrine and where that doctrine came from. It turns out that Sidney Rigdon was a student of Swedenborg according to an article by J.B. Haws of the Church educational system who spoke at the 2008 Sperry Lecture. There are many unique ideas of Swedenborg’s that appear only in his writings and those of the LDS Church. Some of these can be found at the web site http://craigwmiller.tripod.com. Anyhow, here’s one factoid reference Swedenborg I left out of the online article. April 6th is a big date for Mormons since they believe Christ was born on that day and that’s the day the Church was founded. April 6th is the day that Swedenborg was visited by the Lord on 1744 and 1745 and given his commission to reveal the inner meaning of the scriptures and describe the world to come (where we go after death). I believe that a lot of the esoteric ideas of Mormonism come straight from Swedenborg. I do not believe that this originated from a Swedenborgian since virtually no Swedenborgian I am acquainted with knows the date that Swedenborg was visited by the Lord even though the dates are recorded in his Spiritual Diary. There are so many unique similarities that it seems like a virtual impossibility that these similarities are coincidences. Like you I believe that Sidney Rigdon (with help from Spaulding and Swedenborg) is both a source for the story of the Book of Mormon and the doctrine contained there.
